Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

What is society, whatever its form may be? The product of men’s reciprocal action….Assume a particular state of development in the productive faculties of man and you will get a particular form of commerce and consumption.
One of the secrets of life is that all that is really worth doing is what we do for others.
Just as reason and freedom are corollaries, so too are faith and force. If men reject reason, they have no way to deal with one another or resolve disputes except, ultimately, by coercion. You have to use force where reason is abandoned. The final expression of that is going to be some kind of institutionalized force by the government. Once you have that, then obedience and conformity rise to the top. the whole system rests on the idea that the individual should efface himself, keep quiet, and obey the leader. Unavoidably, you have an anti-mind atmosphere.
The people who live life having set the ladder of success, they perhaps stay happy but are not sturdy. But the people who spend life keeping familiar with defeat, they are sturdy as well as trustworthy!
